  • 25 Jun 25 - Conditions Report: McGee Pass Trail

    June 30, 2025 2 min read

Courtesy of Bishop local adventurer @nattydil from her time up on the Sierra High Route - thanks for the report!

    Conditions Report:

Current As Of: 25 June 2025*

Activity During Report: Hiking (both on- and off-trail)

    Conditions

Patches of snow starting above little McGee Lake. Getting up to the little plateau/basin before the final switchbacks, the sideslope angle was just enough to pull out the ice axe for the longest snow stretch. Some of the snow is years-old avalanche debris yet to melt and thus dense making it firm/icy in sections still. No joke...even if you think it seems unnecessary or a hassle, you still need to be bringing foot traction (such as crampons) and an ice axes just in case into the High Sierra. The final switchbacks to McGee Pass are then mostly snow free or you are able to scramble around. Medium-sized sun cups pretty much throughout.
