04 Jun 25 - Conditions Report: Piute Pass Trail from North Lake

Current As Of: 04 June 2025*

Activity During Report: On trail hiking on the Piute Pass Trail out of North Lake

Conditions: No mosquitoes yet 🤩! The snowline is just below Loch Leven, then it's about 50/50 coverage to Piute Lake. The last bit up to the pass is pretty snowy, except for the rocks that have melted out. Suncups have developed and are pretty deep, but the snowpack as a whole is very shallow by now.

As you can see in photo #3 below, before 10am, no postholing at all; afterwards, a little, but no more than knee deep. Seems like the current weather even allows for a light overnight freeze above 10,800ft - we found some fresh ice on Piute Lake.

Mt Emerson is almost dry, but still has some snow/ice as well as some melt water seeping down the gullies so caution is warranted if climbing it. The traditional descent gully is dry.
