Bear Canister - Rental

Bear Canisters are required for backpacking in the wilderness areas of Sequoia Kings Canyon National Parks and Yosemite National Park. They are also highly recommended in the Inyo National Forest, especially on Mount Whitney, since there are no suitable trees for hanging food in the High Sierra. 

We rent all bear cans for just $3 per day, regardless of size.

Our rentals are a selection of large, medium, and small bear can options. See the comparison chart photo.

The large options are the Bear Vault BV500 (a smidge larger than the BP Cache), the Backpackers' Cache Bear Canisters ("Garcia"), and the slightly smaller Bear Vault BV475. The medium options is the Bear Vault BV450. The small option is the Bear Vault BV425.

Large: The BV500 and Backpackers' Cache models are generally good for 5-7 days of food for one person (or a weekend for two or three people). The BV475 will do well for one person in the 4-5 day range with conservative planning (or two people in the 2-3 day range).

Medium: The BV450 is great for a long weekend. Fits about 4 days of food for one person or a 2-day weekend for two people.

Small: The BV425 is great for a quick weekend get away. Fits about 1-2 days of food for one person.
