  • Stay Connected in the Backcountry: Rocky Talkie Radios Now at Eastside Sports

    July 15, 2025 1 min read

We’re excited to announce that Eastside Sports now carries the Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio—a rugged, easy-to-use two-way radio designed specifically for mountain athletes and backcountry adventurers.

Whether you’re climbing in Pine Creek, skiing in the Mammoth backcountry, or hiking above Bishop Pass, the Rocky Talkie helps you stay in touch with your partners when cell service disappears. With line-of-sight range up to 25+ miles, a secure carabiner attachment, and a specialized rechargeable lithium-ion battery that provides over 4 days of battery life, even in very cold conditions (-20°F), these radios are built to thrive in alpine environments.

For enhanced durability, the radio has a shatterproof LED screen and thermoplastic protective covering. Unlike the fragile plastic clips of other radios, the Mountain Radio easily secures to backpacks and harnesses using an ultra-light carabiner and back-up leash.

The radio transmits the maximum power legally allowed for use without a license (2-watts). The max range at times been seen over 35 miles, however, 1 to 5 miles is more typical in backcountry terrain. For more info on range, please see Rocky Talkie's range testing video or blog post.

Rocky Talkies are weather-resistant (IP56 rated), simple to operate with gloves, and incredibly durable thanks to their shock-resistant rubber case. They’ve quickly become a favorite among climbers, splitboarders, guides, and SAR teams—earning praise for their reliability and simplicity when communication matters most.

If you’re looking for a safer, smarter way to coordinate with your crew in the mountains, come check out the Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio at Eastside Sports in Bishop or online at eastsidesports.com. These things are built for big terrain—and now, they’re available right here at Eastside.
