End of Summer = Start of Crazy Sales!

1. The End of Summer in the Eastern Sierra

• Though the days have been growing shorter and shorter here in the Eastern Sierra, the weather could have fooled you that it was still summer with highs in the 80s here in the Owens Valley until the past week! Summer may have been officially over in September, but it was un-officially continuing on. We have still had a few southbound PCT-ers passing through telling us of dry passes (for now) and tons of store visitors from the Bay Area coming through Tioga Pass or other passes because the roads are still open.
• All good things come to an end though so that other good things can come in time. The last week has seen our Bishop average high temperatures drop into the 60s with lows in the low 30s (or even lower)! This means that the Sierra and White Mountains are seeing highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s or teens. It is only a matter of time (days or at most a couple of weeks) now until the Bishop skyline is capped in white thanks to snow and ice.
• What does this mean? Two things...

1. Prime time for fall activities in the Eastern Sierra! The fall colors have finally arrived here on the valley floor in Bishop after their earlier arrival up high in the Sierra. Also, the annual migration of boulder bros/babes and sport climbers has begun to visit the world-famous boulders at Buttermilks and the Volcanic Tablelands (Happy and Sad Boulders) as well as the steep, challenging sport climbing routes of the Owens River Gorge. Those seemingly ever elusive sending temps have finally come.
2. Time for Eastside Sports to Offload Remaining Summer Gear! The end of summer means that the team here at the store transitions over to supporting fall and winter activities while starting behind-the-scene preparations for next summer. Step one to that preparation is cleaning out our remaining summer inventory.
