  • 07 May 2026 - Trip Report: Reversed Peak, June Lake

    May 09, 2026 2 min read

This week, we ventured north to June Lake, seeking dry single track and summit views on Reversed Peak. The June Lake Scenic Loop encircles this prominent point, and there are a couple different trails that approach the final summit push.

    Trip Report:

Current As Of: 7 May 2026*

Activity During Report: Offroading, hiking, some Class 3 scrambling to access the summit

    Conditions

We elected the longer route, starting from the Reversed Peak - East Trailhead. This is north of June Lake and requires driving a couple miles down a bumpy dirt road. There is a large pullout for parking next to where the single track begins for a 7.2 mile total round trip hike.
The trail starts mellow, meandering slowly south uphill between the sagebrush and the pines. White & purple wildflowers were blooming from the sandy grounds. Sneak a peak backwards for emerging views of Mono Lake.
After 2.2 miles, the trail reaches a junction where you turn right (NW) onto the main spur to the summit. The trail gets noticeably stepper and the views more spectacular as you gain the south ridge; hike 1.4 more miles to the summit. June Mountain Ski Area glistened nearby with spring slush, and the White Mountains loomed in the distance still cloaked in their white winter layer.
There is a short scramble to gain the summit of Reversed Peak. From the high point proper, the views coalesce into 360 degrees of delight. June Lake, Grant Lake, and Mono Lake reflect brightly, with their corresponding adjacent peaks standing proud. We enjoyed a moment of pause to soak in all angles before cruising back down, reversing the route with great downhill flow back to the car.
